Had the torta milaneza. Not greasy and comes with a side of fries. I do miss a bit of the crunch in deep fried tortas I am accustomed to. Personally, i think the serving sizes here are for 1.5 to 2 ppl considering price as well.

They improved their chips a few tears ago. So much better ! Still love this place.

Living two streets behind Amigo I come here whenever I feel like mexican food or want to meet up with friends close to home. My go to is the chicken burrito with sauce, AMAZING, only downside is that you have to pay fifty cents extra for the sauce when you get it to go. The nachos and fajitas are also awesome. It's worth dining in for the chips (which aren't fresh) and salsa (which is great!).

I don't care how good this turns out to be, I'll never come back. Been waiting almost an hour for a $50 bag of tacos.

Came here for lunch with coworkers. We got complimentary chips, salsa, and pico de gallo after being seated. The chips are not homemade, but the salsa is fantastic. I ordered the chilli relleno lunch plate. It came with one small chilli relleno (cheese), beans, and rice. It was pretty standard, and not very tasty. I ended up drenching my plate with their salsa. If I were to go back, I would order something else. Most of my co-workers ordered burritos and they looked really good!

Excellent food and a very nice restaurant. However, the service is ridiculously slow. We sat in a back corner and had to get up to get a waitress to take our order. We then had to wave her down again for drink refills. Would have been 5 stars if the service was better. I'd go back again, but only if I didn't have a 1 pm meeting...

This was the second time I've went here with my boyfriend and the service we received both times could've been better especially with our most recent visit. We got seated right away and got our drinks, chips and salsa quick along with our orders taken so that was alright. When we were finished with our meal, a buss person came to clean our table but our waitress have seemed to ignore our table for a good amount of time so we couldn't get our bill and leave. Also, our water glasses were not refilled as often as it should've been. Anyways, good food so 3 stars but the service can definitely improve.

Ok so I'm usually stingy about the number of stars I'm willing to give but I gotta give it up for El Amigo Burrito. This place is delicious and as far as I know... athenic Mexican Food. Not pricey at all and even if it was it'd be worth it. :) I go here about once a month and have never been disappointed. They have a wide range of Mexican food. From tamales to carne asada to quesidillos. They have it all. My dish of choice would have to be the Chile Colorado Burrito. YUMMY! :D

Trying this place out since one of our friends recommended it. I tried the enchiladas special with the ground beef and was a little disappointed with the lack of flavor. My wife ordered the tostada and she found it similarly devoid of flavor. Portion sizes are just average, and the high prices for quantity and quality here are mismatched. Perhaps the kitchen was having an off night.

I always rate a mexican restaurant by the quality of their carne asada. For me the perfect burrito is a blend of soft and crunchy pieces of steak in every bite. This place does it for me in terms of a quality carne asada super burrito. Their salsa is reasonably spicy and enjoyable. I prefer a habanero salsa but il take what i can get. Overall friendly the staff takes care of you and the food is exceptional.

Best Chili Colorado I have ever had! Generous, no fat and flavorful. Reasonably priced. The chili Rellenos are cooked fresh and not reheated. Everything else is kind of bland. The chili colorado, chili verde and chili rellenos are worth the stop here and are solid!

I used to live just down the street from this place for 5 years. I never met anyone who's dined there & by their name, I thought they only served burritos so I never thought to try them LOL. The strip mall looks run down so that's another reason I never thought to go in. Was looking for a new mexican place tonight , they popped in my head & I thought ...why not? What a surprise that they have a full menu! I had one of their combination plates & the food was really good. I thought their beans were a tad bit salty & they really could get better chips (I like them served warm to me, thin & crispy). That's why only 4 stars. The food itself though was better than I expected. I also asked if they used any lard in their food & the waitress answered with a very stern 'NO!' Good to hear. Definitely will go back!

There's a saying out there, "bad Mexican food is better than no Mexican food." This little hole was recommended to DH (designated husband) and I by his 100% Chinese mother who swore that this was authentic Mexican food. Well, authentic doesn't always equate to good. I love Mexican food. I was reared on it. Mom's basics were Pico Pica taco sauce and Las Palmas canned enchilada sauces. Mom stayed in her element. As I got older, I strayed and began making my own sauces from scratch. I'm pretty sure I've spoiled myself. El Amigo Burrito is like mom's cooking, but I didn't find any comfort in it. (As I got older, I realized mom wasn't such a great cook.) I'm fussy about Mexican food. Perhaps the above quote doesn't apply to me. I don't want to settle for bad Mexican food. El Amingo does not make fresh chips. These seemed to be from those bulk bags of Costo or Smart & Final chips. You know the ones, gritty, stale, bland round disks of cardboard. Ouch. Epic fail on the chips. Bad first impression. The chips were served with a chunky salsa that basically tasted like ice cold diced tomatoes. Very little onion, pepper or cilantro or flavor. Fail on the chunky salsa. Another bowl contained a smooth 'salsa'. Oy vey. The flavor hit the memory cells like a freight train: Pico Pica! Now, I like Pico Pica, but seriously, I think I was expecting scratch made. DH ordered the chili verde burrito and I ordered the chili relleno. We were somewhat taken aback to discover that more than half the burrito was beans. We counted seven total discernable chunks of pork in the burrito, which led to a discussion of how often we've come across beans in a chili verde burrito. We can't recall a single time, unless it was a super burrito. This wasn't. The green sauce on the burrito had virtually no flavor. It reminded me of El Pato. The chili relleno was also an equal disappointment. If you are seeking a relleno made with a roasted Poblano pepper, then skip El Amigo. Their relleno is made with the very mild-mannered Anaheim and stuffed with cheddar cheese. The cheese was stringy and tough. I've experienced such a relleno before: The ready-made at Smart and Final. The red sauce on the relleno had a tinny taste, again reminding me of El Pato. Both entrees came with rice and beans. We found the beans to be pasty, gritty and whoefully bland. Again, my impression was that they are canned. The highlight of both plates was the rice. We both agreed that the rice was the best item of the entire lunch. Service was very friendly and efficient. Seating was comfortable. Price reasonable.

I am basing my review here on the enchiladas only! If you are a fan of enchiladas this is a good place to go. My family used to eat here as a child and all I would ever order were the red chicken enchiladas. I returned recently to see if they were still as good as I remembered, and yes they were! The meal comes with a salad which I would skip, it wasn't that great. No fresh chips but I eat their pico de gallo by the bowl-full. I've recently been into Mole sauce so I tried the mole enchiladas and they were excellent! The sauce was sweet, spicy and thick, just the way I like my Mole sauce. I can't say much about anything else on the menu but their enchiladas are still some of the best I've ever had! As well as their spanish rice mmmmm. Not bad for a hole-in the wall type of joint.

I love mexican food! But this place was ok... not necessarily my fav. Your meal comes with a side salad but unfortunately... the lettuce leaves are a bit on the brownish side. The portions are pretty large. I had ordered the carne asada and man oh man... that piece of meat was almost the size of my platter! It was literally hiding underneath the rice and grilled veggies. The only thing was... it was 1/3 fat! O_O

Came here one raining night. The temperature of the place was just right and I could smell the authentic-ness. Their menu is so massive that it's too hard to decide. Of course, I chose the El Amigo burrito with chips and salsa. FYI, the salsa is out of this world (and especially spicy). The burrito was pretty good. Perks: placemats teaches you Spanish! Free chips and salsa. You can pretty much customize any thing you want. The service was spectacular and everyone is just friendly. :)

This place is probably the first mexican restaurant in SJ that made me go WOW!! So YUMMY!! I can see myself going here and ordering so many different things off the menu. I had the shredded chicken lunch burrito with gauc and sourcream on top. It also had this amazing red sauce with cheese on it! Man I could have licked the plate. El Amigo burrito starts you off with chips and fresh salsa, and another red hot sauce. The hot sauce was more tangy then hot and the chips meh I didn't really care for them. The salsa however was really fresh and had a good kick from the little bites of jalapenos. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to order the Nacho's but they use the same chips from the complimentary basket on the nachos. I wasn't too hot about those chips so I passed on the nachos. The decor is sorta bleh but the food makes up for it. This place is a must try! I will be going back :)

Their burrito's are HUGE and delicious. Their service is great and they don't get too busy during lunch so their isnt a wait. The salsa they bring with the chips is also REALLY good, perfectly spicy and mixed. I get their wet carne asada burrito, it is always too much food, and i am always happy to eat the rest of it later!

I was really not that impressed. This is one of my first let downs from my fellow yelpers. Sub-par, especially for California. I ordered the Amigo Burrito figuring that it's always best to go with their signature dish. Wow, what a letdown. Considering there are probably no less than 500 places to get a burrito in the Bay Area, I can't imagine at least 300 of them are as good as or better than this.

Myth: a lot of good reviews for a Mexican place in Santa Clara means it'll be good Myth busted: Sure, Mexican people work there, but mainly this is a white people neighborhood joint. So maybe I'm biased. I may be Chinese-American, but I grew up in Salinas, California - home of the lettuce field, the Rodeo, and Mexican food. Carnitas taco was actually decent, but I need to bring the average rating down to warn y'all! Dining companion wasn't impressed with the asada burrito, which tasted more like roast beef. Horchata watery as all hell too. Perhaps their mole is okay? Waitstaff is nice and unobtrusive. But seriously, the horrid chips, the salsa, the atmosphere? Likely won't be back. Sticking to La Costa in San Jose.

El Camino Real is, of course, Spanish for "Walk of the Liquor Stores" and not where I'd expect to find fantastic Mexican food. I was brought here by a dear old friend for lunch. Since we were coming from the Santa Clara University area and were a bit pressed for time, I was surprised that we drove past, oh, I'd say 42 Mexican places to get to El Amigo Burrito which, of course, is Spanish for "Am I going to the Donkey?" The food was fantastic. I had a combo plate with a crispy beef taco and a chicken ("pollo" for those of us who habla) tamale. The main items were tasty and so were the beans and rice. The service was a tad slow because it was in the middle of the lunch rush and the place was completely full. I was amazed to find that almost everyone in there seemed to be a regular. Impressive. The strip mall ambiance from the outside isn't all that great (it's next to a big billiard hall) but once you get in, it's got a nice family feel to it. If you're in the SC/Sunnyvale area, put this place into your rotation.

I've been going to El Amigo for 10+ years because their food has always been amazing and the service was always very good. Recently though the service has been so awful I don't know if my love for their food is worth it anymore. The nice servers I've known from the past must not work there anymore and the new servers I've encountered are super rude. Last time I ordered food to go, my order was wrong and the food looked like it was purposely smashed. El Amigo what happened?

i don't try a lot of different food when i got here; i typically stick with my favorite chicken burrito! the chicken is always moist and seasoned well and i get the burrito itself drenched in enchilada sauce and cheese! their salsas are pretty good as well. never had a margarita there, but their horchata is pretty bomb! ps: it's too much food! their serving sizes are HUGE! i'm pretty sure i usually end up with a tummy ache after eating here... i overstuff myself everytime!

Exactly what 3 starts was meant to say, A-OK. Ordered the El Amigo Burrito with chile Colorado, 2 stars. Also had the carnitas burrito, 4 stars. Plus, the older woman was wearing a beautiful dress so she gets a bit of street cred for that. Will continue looking for a great burrito in mi barrio.

So we have been here a few times already. Here's what I think. Chile Colorado: Wow!! This is a good dish that they make. The meat is soft and the sauce is consistent. We have ordered this dish twice already and recipe stayed up to par. Enchilada: I had the beef enchilada and the meat and the sauce were both tasty and they smother the enchilada with a good amount of cheese. Taco: Not bad. I ordered the Chicken taco and it was fine but I think I make a better Chicken taco. It was nothing to write home about but it was nothing to complain about. Chile Relleno: Wow, almost as good as grandma makes it. Almost but they mix both Monterey Jack cheese and I think cheddar but the flavor was delicious. Beans: Wow, we have been here twice and the beans weren't as good as the first time we ate there. Dude, you guys lost a star because your consistency wasn't there. The beans were good but not as good as the last time. Rice: The rice was good. It wasn't as good as Tlaquepaque but it was decent. Tortilla CHips: Forget it. They taste like they came out of a bag from Costco. Those industrial size bags, you know? Sauces: WoW!! HOT!!! But tasty. Jamaica: I've tasted better but it was good enough to drink. Also, we had a show that night. While we were eating some lady came in complaining that she had to drive back from her house because they put sauce on her burrito and she threw a fit. Seriously? Dude there is no reason to yell at the manager. I know they messed up but dude... calm down. After she left the manager and waitresses apologized for the scene which I thought was a nice gesture. Seriously, if you need to yell at someone don't do it because if that was me I would have pointed to the sign that said, "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." And told that lady to have a coke and a smile and STFU.

This is my babe's favorite mexican spot. It's a very chill atmosphere and you get warmly welcomed when you walk though the door. My review might not be the best example as far as service since my bf is a regular and they love him! So of course they're super nice and sweet to me, the older ladies are anyway. The newer girls aren't all that. Anyway, their pico de gallo and red salsa are to die for! The ladies are always coming around to top off your drink. The food is made fast and tastes really great. I've had their torta de asada, tacos, and the famous El Amigo Burrito which comes drenched in red salsa, guacamole and crema. yummm. We for sure love coming here:)

The chips are from costco and the salsa was okay, the pico de gallo looked a little pale and not fresh. I tried a Margarita and it tasted like a smoothie one from Vegas or something, basically sugar and margarita mix in a slushy machine. Food was just okay, but most taquerias around here do better for less Service was great though, everyone was friendly and prompt.

Food is always great. Why then the one star and zero if I could.. We have been coming here for 15 years.. The door placard states the place is open till 9pm. The website says they are open till 9pm. This evening we arrive at 8:10pm. There were 2 tables total eating at the time. Service was slow for only having 2 tables total. Our food arrived and we proceeded to eat. 10 minutes into our dinner the vacuum started running toward the back of the restaurant.. then it came closer to the front.. where we were seated. Then to the front.. is this really happening????? My husband actually mentioned to our waitress that the (very loud) vacuum running during dinner was a bit rude. She agreed. She left.. the vacuum turned off for all off 45 seconds.. then turned back on and never turned off again. We then sat after for over 10 minutes waiting for someone to come and get the check so we cold get out of there and away from the noise. I finally had to bring it to the front and yell over the vacuum to have someone check us out so we could get out of there and stop listening to the damn vacuum. The woman took the check from my hand.. left the vacuum running as she walked away to hand off the check. On our way out I stopped to mention to the woman who mostly sits at the front desk and has been there for years.. that the vacuum was very rude.. she informed me they closed at 8:30 and I should have known that. I told her if they closed at 8:30.. why did they seat us if there wasn't ample time to deliver good service.. without the noise. Apparently their policy is.. if we close at 8:30.. everyone get out or listen to the vacuum. She said they close at 8:30 and have to clean the restaurant.. WHY WHEN THERE ARE CUSTOMERS EATING DO YOU HAVE TO VACUUM.. REALLY???? And again I should have known that. What restaurant closes at 8:30 and expects everyone out at 8:30. That's not how it works.. Or even 9pm. If you are open til a certain time you take orders till then and and accommodate your guests until they are finished.. with an atmosphere conducive to enjoying your dinner. When I reminded her how rude it was.. she told me to "GO SOMEWHERE ELSE". Tomorrow perhaps a chat with the owner will reveal the TRUE time they close and why our party should expected to be treated with such disrespect. Maybe an update of the website AND the door placard would be appropriate.. so you don't have to treat your customers so POORLY.. verbally and with bad experience. For shame.

A really great Mexican Food place in Santa Clara. Frequented by city employees en masse - and these people know whats good. The Quesadilla is a homerun, as is the customer service - every single time. There's a reason its very popular - because its also very good. Can't go wrong ith El Amigo Burrito.

I love this place. I have even grown to love the chips and salsa, which initially was not my fave. But really, I love the frozen margaritas. The rocks margarita is bad; frozen is where it is at!

I felt like something different so I tried this place. I came here at an off hour so there was no wait. I ordered to go and got a burrito. It wasn't like anything I had around here and I really liked it. Nice to have a change instead of a standard burrito. I would come back here because I liked what I ordered and I got fast service. The people I saw who came to dine in also seemed like they got fast service so maybe next time I will dine in.

Using yelp to find somewhere for a quick lunch near my late-morning appointment, El Amigo Burrito seemed worth checking out. It filled up quite fast after I was seated, and many diners seemed to be regulars, they knew the staff. The chips brought to the table looked like they came from the "giant bag of tortilla chips" sold at Costco, but they were fresh and the salsa seemed homemade: fresh and excellent. I ordered a combo lunch, a ground beef taco and a cheese enchilada. It arrived promptly. The enchilada was just fine, but I couldn't eat the taco: the meat tasted off to me, and the shell, while seemingly homemade, was inappropriately moist on the bottom. The beans were fine, but the rice, which others mentioned positively, had a smell that was not appetizing to me at all. I tried hiding whatever that was in the rice by mixing it with the beans, but it still wasn't tasty. The beans and enchilada were OK; the taco and rice were not. I mostly ate chips and salsa, and for $13, it just wasn't a satisfying lunch.

Apathetic service during non-peak hours. At 3pm a friend and I emerged from my condominium cave, donning shades and bloodshot eyes. Enticed by enchiladas and beckoned by burritos we cruised on over to our friendly Mexican eatery on Stevens Creek. When we arrived the place was deserted. The lone waitress sighed as we walked in, begrudgingly uprooting herself from her perch on the back counter to seat us. When she took our order her words were sharp and cold. Not a smile. Not a 'thank you'. Just the bare minimum. The food was basic; cooked well enough, but nothing extraordinary. Chips were stale, salsa was average. From the food to the service, the experience was lackluster. El Amigo got the job done, but barely.

Came around 8ish. They sat us(party of 8), but they told us that they were to close at 8:30. As we were ordering and while we were eating, they started vacuuming! I mean hello? they changed their hours bc business was slow, but hello? no wonder. HOWEVER... food was sooo good. it was seriously the best mole i've had. i ordered the MOLE ENCHILADAS. i finished it in five minutes flat. i also tasted the beef chimichangas.. it was ok. their steak a la mexicana was ok. if you cannot decide what to eat, you must order the chicken enchiladas with mole and you will not be disappointed!

The service was crap. I never did get that glass of water I asked for. I know we came in an hour before closing but there is no reason to ignore a table of four people hungry and willing to pay for food. I would not go back

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for Mexican the other day so we looked up a place on yelp and this one seemed to fit the bill: it was close and had good reviews. All in all the food was pretty decent. The chips that were brought to the table were pretty stale though. The salsa was pretty spicy with chunks of jalepenos (I liked that, but the boyfriend cant handle TOO spicy). The burritos were HUGE. We could have shared one and had plenty. My only complaint is that after eating the burrito my stomach felt very acidic (both at dinner and when I had the leftovers for lunch the next day). I wouldn't be opposed to trying it out again to maybe try something else on the menu.

I had the cheese enchilada. I would say that it wasn't the best enchilada nor the worst. Was okay. I had refried beans and spanish rice. They didn't taste that great. I suspect the spanish rice was seasoned with chicken stock. The side salad on italian dressing was good. I actually enjoyed it, even though I don't like salads. And the chips/salsa were good. Chips are very dry and crumbly. I had times where I sometimes inhaled the crumbly chips and had to cough a little. Overall, it's okay. I think the food is lacking a lot of flavor compared to good Mexican food, so that's why I rated it 3-stars.

We came here for Cinco De Mayo with a reservation. We loved it! The salsa is amazing! It tasted homemade and was very spicy. They give you up to two servings and then you pay. It was busy so it wasn't refilled until we asked. Other than that, great service, took our orders right way and brought them out very quickly. The servers were friendly. I had the Enchiladas Rancheros and they were sooo yummy! It's a pretty big serving so you can eat half and have leftovers. We will definitely be returning here!

This restaurant is right across the street from my office, so I go here for lunch, mostly. I like their food and think that it stacks up well against my favorite local Mexican restaurants, Casa Lupe and Taqueria Tlaquepque. The service is friendly and helpful. It can be a little slow for lunch time when they are busy. The and salsa are good. The salsas are a bit watery for my taste and the chips are definitely bought, not made fresh. The flavors are good and hey, who can complain about free chips?!? I like to get the enchilada plate, wet burrito or sometimes an egg dish like Huevos a la Mexicana or Chiliechiles. I haven't had a dish I haven't liked yet. The prices are average for Mexican fare, I would say. I recommend El Amigo Burrito for an authentic Mexican meal.

One Sunday I was looking for a near by Mexican restaurant, and found this from Yelp. I have been out there for a lunch, and my family enjoyed the food. Its closer to some of the good Mexican restaurants I had been in Albuquerque . Love their Chips and Salsa, and ofcourse their service too.

I love this place! I have gone here for years and it's always been exceptionally good. The service is fast, the waitresses are pleasant, and you can tell the owners want to run a great business. But I would go there even if the service sucked because the food-- THE FOOOOOD. I always get a Supreme El Amigo Burrito. The plate comes out hot (they will tell you so, kindly) and the cheese super melty. Most dishes come with beans and rice (or even a salad) and there's always chips and salsa. I have never had better Mexican food and I'm not sure I ever will.

We have lived in the area for years, and the place is convenient. The food I would rate three stars, the service is poor. For instance I had to ask for desert for my wife. We were close to the front on our last visit and had to listen to the annoying phone ring. Why not use a more discreet phone? As someone else commented the chips and salsa are like something you would buy at Safeway. The rice and beans were good. Look there has to be a better Mexican restaurant then this one around here and I'm going to find it.

The bf ordered the carne asada rib-eye steak from the dinner menu for lunch... and I got myself the chili relleno, since it was cold and I needed some comfort food. The chili relleno was good, but they used the bright yellow cheddar cheese when I am used to something else in them. The bf's carne asada plate was good though, with the ranchero sauce. Not bad for Mexican food, but I still miss ESSJ when it comes to Mexican food. It's clean, and has a modest design throughout the interior. I like the paintings/framed posters hung throughout the space. I'd go back, but I think I'll stick to what the bf ordered. =D

Meh, it's only ok but that hasn't stopped me from going back. Plus, the portions are huge. There's only two things that really disappoint me: the sangria is nothing special and the beef choice for the tacos and enchiladas is ground.

3 stars! I am a big fan of Mexican food...came here twice and wasn't too impressed. I thought they had decent food but their prices are a little on the high side. Service was nice and you get free chips and salsa I still prefer La Vics over El Amigo (perhaps it's the orange sauce that captivates me).

They make a really awesome carne asada burrito. Real chunks of meat, well seasoned. The chips are okay, but the salsa is lacking--it's too spicy and too thin to really enjoy. And unfortunately they don't have a liquor license, so margaritas are out of the question. But the beer is good:)

My family and I have been coming here for years, so this review is long overdue. This cozy family owned restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but don't let that fool you because the food is amazing! The service is always prompt and friendly. I come here at least once a week. Pico de Gallo: Made fresh daily. This can be addicting and be careful because it packs a punch with the jalapenos. El Amigo Burrito: Filled with chile colorado, rice, beans, cheese. The meat is so tender and juicy it will melt in your mouth. Super yummy. Steak Fajitas: Grilled with onions and green peppers. Served with a side of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. Absolutely delicious. Horchata: Rice water drink. The best I've had in the area. Can't get enough of this stuff. Free refills when you dine in. yay! Carne Asada Soft Tacos: Two corn tortillas, carne asada, pinto beans, pico de gallo and a slice of avocado. This isn't your ordinary taco from any taqueria. These tacos are huge and packed with meat. I can actually make two tacos out of one and be completely satisfied.

I came here to celebrate Jennifer T's birthday :) I ordered the El Amigo burrito w/ Chile Verde, it was really good! When I have mexican food I don't usually chose dishes with sauce but my meal was good. Everyone else in our party seemed pretty content as well. I wouldn't give El Amigo a fifth star.. just because I think they could invest in some better chips or at least serve some that aren't so obviously store bought :( Chips aside, I'd come back.

When I was in beauty school, it was "COOL" to have your boyfriend drop off some food. At our school they were pretty strict on our 30 minute lunches so there weren't too many places to drive closeby, of those we would get sick of the same food over time. So I ate some food from the deli at Save Mart (20 sec. walking distance) and my friend was eating a vegetarian burrito with rice and beans. I took one bite.. Then another.. Then another.. I ATE HALF HER FRIGGAN vegetarian burrito AND I'M NOT EVEN vegetarian!!!! It was THAAT good... :DDDDDD She told me her boyfriend bought it and it was from El Amigo Burrito. The burritos melt in your MOUTH.. They MELT...in your mouth.. Really..... I've had the carne asada burrito, chicken burrito, and vegetarian burrito. I like mine wet and topped with guacamole--- a dollar extra charge I think. I always end up getting the vegetarian since that was my first.. I LOVE the enchilada sauce here. I've never had anything like it. I know they make it because it doesn't taste smoky, canned, or burnt. I love it. GREAT FLAVOR and Texture for the burritos! Even vegetarian style! How do they manage to do that?! The last time I checked the vegetarian burrito was $6.95? Reasonable. I always like to order togo because the service is no good here. I think if I were Mexican they would treat me better. However when ever I order togo they are always quick and nice. They do serve sunday brunch but I haven't checked it out yet.

Not in the most glamorous of locations (in a boring-looking strip mall) but had a solid Mexican lunch here with friendly service. Chicken enchilda was very tasty with most pieces of pulled chicken and it was served hot and covered a satisfying sauce and perfect amount of cheese. The sides of rice and refried beans were fine too although unmemorable. Service was very friendly by one of the waitresses and she checked back a couple of times to see if we needed anything and to refill my drink. Location is in the same strip mall as Santa Clara billards and Woodhams deli. The place is bigger than it looks from the front and is a reasonable place to get some ppl together for some Mexican. Restaurant was about half full during weekday lunch. Bottom line: Liked my enchilada, good service, and low-key atmosphere. I'd come here again. Chips could be better - looked store bought versus homemade.

We used to live less than a mile from here. mmm mmm mmm. One thing I can tell you about this place is that you shouldn't even bother ordering anything other than their signature item: The El Amigo Burrito!!! I get the chicken El Amigo burrito without guacamole or lettuce. A decade ago, they never used lettuce, but for some reason, they started adding it, and I'm sorry.....it's gross! Please don't get the lettuce! This is truly the best burrito on the planet. p.s. take some of the sour cream off the top. I think they plop down like 1/2 c. of that stuff on the burrito. This thing is easily 2 meals in one. I always save 1/2 of it.

I've eaten here several times and love the food here! I recommend the chile verde burrito (only $6.25) which is tasty and huge...great value! The pork is moist, tender, and flavorful. Also, the caldo de res (beef stew with vegetables) which is only served on Fridays tastes homemade and hearty. The service is always excellent, too!

Time for: A BURRITO Come to me Happiness wrapped in a fat little bundle I was nervous about trying out a new place...about testing unknown waters! But all in all, I would have to say my El Amigo Burrito earned itself 4 stars. It was the best of both worlds, enchilada sauce all on top of my sweet lil burrito. It was like a pillow covered in flavorful drool. hmmm The chicken was tender and I didn't run into any mystery morsels! This gives me great hope and the green light to venture further into the menu. I can't wait to try the steak burrito. I like the combination and a la carte options too, so hopefully the other entrees will be as solid as the burrito. My only complaint was that there was no pico de gallo ON or IN the burrito. wth! I was desperately desperate so I actually made my own at home, but who does that? Why should I have to do that? Arghhh. The jury is out on the rest of the menu, but even if they disappoint, I think this is a "go to" place for wet burritos. Service was prompt on to go order at 2:30pm on a Tuesday but I guess that isn't really rush hour. hmmm Price notes: El Amigo Burrito - beans, rice, chicken w/ sour cream, guac, sauce, cheese on top - $8.65 after tax Pico de gallo - that was not in or on my burrito, that I should have ordered, that costs too much and should be free - $2.75 for 8oz

If you're going to do Mexican food, you need to do it right. Or you could just go to El Amigo Burrito and let them do it for you, the right way. Tucked unpretentiously in the middle of an unassuming shopping center on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara, stands the little restaurant with a big reputation. For starters, you are always greeted with a warm smile. There is never a wait, the waitresses will recognize your face by your second visit, and even if they don't, they'll act like you're their friend anyway. Service is top notch to say the least. I've never had to wait longer than 20 minutes for food to come out. And if you get the smiling, cheery Marisol, you will be treated like royalty guaranteed. The menu is typical for a Mexican restaurant, featuring chimichangas, enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc, but the quality is what sets El Amigo above the rest. The chimichangas are perfectly golden brown and crisp. It's dressed in sour cream, guacamole, and salsa and served with a side of perfect refried beans and delicate spanish rice. And rest assured, if you order it sans meat, it won't be sans flavor. If you're watching your waist line (why are you at a Mexican restaurant?? I digress...), there is a chicken salad you can order that is just as filling and just as delicious as anything else on the menu. The weekly specials are about $5 off their regular prices, so I'd recommend going for those items if you are pinching pennies. The prices are pretty steep, but you certainly get what you pay for. A word about the margaritas: Watch yourself! They pack a huge (delicious) punch and will knock you on your ass if you aren't careful. I'd suggest ordering a pitcher if you are dining with a party of over two. Authentic Mexican is everywhere in the Bay Area, but when it's done right, as it is here at El Amigo, there is no replication. The interior design of the restaurant isn't something to write home about, but what this little establishment is lacking in aesthetic (only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5), it more than makes up for in hospitality. Besides, all you really need to drink margaritas, eat good food and have an all-around good time is the will to do so.

I came here with a co-worker, I guess you can call friend one day while we were out running errands, specifically trying to get our broken phones fixed. We were hungry and wanted to try something new. Well you may say that Mexican food isn't really trying something new, especially if you grew up in the Bay Area. I say yes, but there are always some sort of dish that you can find that you have not tried before. For me it was the enchiladas mole. Chicken enchiladas smothered in a mole sauce. It was the first time I tried mole and I loved it! My friend tried their friend pork chop, can't remember what they called it, but he absolutely loved it. It was pretty good. It was a very thin cut of pork lightly breaded and deep fried. The pork was still nice and juice and full of flavor. I'm definitely coming back here. What I didn't like was how they were trying to be an American restaurant. We came in the late evening during dinner time and with our entrees came salads. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that served a side salad with ranch dressing. The salad honestly wasn't that great. My meal would have been perfectly fine sans side salad.

i really don't like this place. i've eaten here a couple of times. the burritos are mostly veggies. the service is alright. the chips are eh.. the salsa is eh.. i've had better mexican. i perfer to just eat something from barefoot if anything.

Good, authentic Mexican food. Generally fast service, but they can get a bit complacent if you're sitting in a corner and they're busy. I like getting stuff to go and eating at home. Margaritas aren't anything special, you can tell they're a standard mix, also a bit heavy on the liquor. Enchiladas are delightful and the burritos are GINORMOUS. Their chips are really really really really good. We always pay for extra. Price is a bit high for the food to be honest, so minus one for service, and another for price/quality discrepancy. Expect to pay $30 for two people to have chips, a drink and entrees.

El Amigo Burrito... literal translation... The Friend Burrito... the figurative translation... Burrito you are MY friend! El Amigo is always a lunch time treat for my coworkers and I. The Thursday lunch special "Chili Colorado" lunch plate... ah I pine for you Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The flautas, enchiladas, tacos, and of course the chips and salsa...a-a-mazing! El Amigo special sauce slathered on top of my chili colorado... You are also my friend. They need to sell this stuff in a bottle. If you've got a craving for some Mexican food and a food coma, let me introduce you to my friend El Amigo Burrito.

I used to live about 5 minutes from here, and I loved it! The El Amigo Burrito rocks, as do the Tostada salads. The chips are fresh and bottomless. Not much in the way of ambiance, but who cares when the food is so good? Warning: an El Amigo Burrito must be at least 4 or 5 servings. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EAT IN ONE SITTING! Makes great leftovers for the next day.
This place is ok 10.00 burritos and not that great. sorry..

I don't know where the Burrito came from in its name...This is a sit down restaurant that serves a wide variety of Mexican fare. Prepackaged chips, pico that's had a long time to pickle (not a good thing in my humble opinion), and a weird red salsa that I think tasted strongly of chili and cumin powders. I believe the only burrito they've got is wet. At $8 plus tax/tip, this is out of the realm of taqueria. That's ok. Does it stand on its own? The colorado was great. Good meat that's been simmering a long time, like a brisket. The cheese, creme, guac, and sauce were good. The insides were drippy with a heavy imbalance of liquid beans. Not quite enough rice to hold it up, and the lettuce was distracting. Everything tasted good, but there was too much bean...stuff. Other members of the party enjoyed their burritos more than I...so it could have been a one off problem. The clientele is heavily weighted toward elder white folks. Take that for what you will.

It was all a fluke going here, we went to Bed Bath & Beyond to get some x-mas presents. But it was a work lunch so we had to get food fast. I love Mexican food! So this place was where we ended up going. The place was super messy none of the tables were cleaned. The salsa tasted like pace pecante! That was a shock, it isn't that hard to make salsa, I've even done it. I got a burrito and it was not the greatest I've ever had. The cinnamon chips was good, kudos to that item. So in the end I would not go back here, the food was pricey and not tasty.

So this was a stop on a fat-girl mission that I indulged with my fellow fat girl, Elaina. Fat girl missions are quests to order three course meals in any which form whether it be appetizers, main courses or even desserts and just indulge, gorge and choke on some calories. The order of the day called for Mexican food. Elaina said this place was the bomb, it was authentic and it should be good. El Amigo Burrito is located in a strip mall; when I walked in I felt like I was in a restaurant that was featured in Selena or one of those restaurants along Highway 5 on the way to LA. I didn't mind, I call that charm. But anyway, our server was surprisingly pleasant which was welcoming. We went with the flautas and quesadilla appetizer to warm up our guts. The flautas tasted like crispy taquitos, and the quesadillas were a bit greasy. However, the guacamole made up for that one. Then I decided on a chimichanga which was okay - had tender beef but the tortilla was fried to be unmanageable. It was like a big Mexican wonton. Everything tasted pre-packaged (we wondered that through the meal), the ranch tasted Hidden Valley and the salad tasted Fresh Express. That lead us to have this thought through the whole meal. It was like that bitch from Food Network, Sandra Lee was back there making everything semi-homemade. Douchebag. But hmmmm... so it's a mixed bag. Better than most, but really nothing worth raving about. Perhaps, it might be best to go back and see my friend the burrito sometime again when the fat girl mission is calling for it.

Located in a yucky strip mall, but it's ok. Food is pretty good. They only have wine and beer though. I tried to order a margarita, but found out they make them out of wine? A little weird.

I've eaten here quite a bit in the past half a year or so with friends from work. Nothing amazing -- in fact, never felt the need to Yelp about it... Decent American-Mexican fare and faux Margaritas that get the job done. They get one thing incredibly, unbelievably wrong: Iced Tea. I don't know how you screw up Iced Tea, but these guys get it *spectacularly* wrong. I can't even describe the taste. Bad water meets some kind of chemical thing, maybe. Gaak. Yesterday, unfortunately, brought my rating down a star: slow, slow service, mix-ups in which vegetarians got chicken and omnivores got the veggie dishes, and with no time left to straighten it out. I'm pretty sure I'll eat here again -- my typical quesadilla con pollo is impossible to screw up, but I probably won't bring a whole gang the way we did this week.

Enough with the so so reviews. This place rocks. Hello, I'm Mexican and my grandmother always served us salad. Anyway, the thing to eat...Chicken Mole! HELLO! Rocks! This is why you go here..they have a decent Chile Colorado and Chile Verde per my husband but he is a gringo so who knows. They have always been extremely friendly and have provided great service! Three cheers for El Amigo Burrito!

Seriously, you just can't go wrong here. Been a fam favorite for a long time now! The waitresses are the same ones that have been running the place since I can remember! They are all super sweet, and prompt. They start you off with 2 types of salsa, and a side of chips. the red salsa is super spicy, but when you mix the 2 salsas together..super tasty. My favorite dish here is the "El Amigo burrito SURPREME" with carneasada....WET not dry. It's humungous..I can never finish it myself. Also, my mom is a big fan of the machacas. The rice is always cooked perfectly and with perfect flavor. All in all..this is a great spot to come to if you're on a date, or having family time.

I love this place, it's hard for me to finish the food b/c it's so fulfilling but man o man I love getting my mexican food here. When you get here don't let the strip mall fool you, it may look outdated but it gives the places there a nice neighborhood feel with no franchises.

This is a nice neighborhood Mexican restaurant. The service was very friendly and they were attentive to our refills and asked how things were tasting when we shared bites (paying attention). The guy taking orders on the phone was really friendly too, we sat near the front and heard him take a lot of orders with a really good attitude. They were doing a bumping business on this Friday night, tables full and many takeout orders going out the door. We tried the Camarones Rancheros and the Enchiladas de Mole. Both were really good, I had the mole and it was tasty - chocolatey and cinnamony but not spicy. The chicken in the enchiladas was moist and yummy. The shrimp dish was also tasty, I see it's been reviewed already. :) I am dinging them a star for the chips. They really did seem like tostitos lol. I think they can do better on the chips. They did serve them with a hot red sauce and a mild chopped salsa, both of which were good. Overall it was good and we'll be back.

Went to lunch here yesterday. Now, keep in mind I am from Texas and lived in New Mexico, so my ideas about mexican food is all around how good the tortillas and chips are. The chips looked like they were bought at Costco, but I have to admit the salsa made up for them. It was chock full of fresh peppers, onions and tomatoes. They had a second sauce (red) also at the table and it was a good compliment to my tacos. I ordered a la carte shrimp and carne asada tacos. Very good, but the corn tortillas left a little to be desired. The bill came to 20.00 for the two of us. Will I go again. Probably not, unless I read they changed their chips and tortillas. There are just too many other places out there.

ALL I CAN REMEMBER IS THAT THIS PLACE IS SLOW SERVICE, THE BURRITO LEFT A PUDDLE OF GREASE ON MY PLATE! The food wasn't that great because the only good thing I remember about it was that the rice was yummy and the pineapple jarrito drink was good. overall not worth going back.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Mole - Excellent! Burritos - Excellent! Price - Worth the big 'ol burrito you get! If you order the chicken burrito, they put a TON of meat in there. Good for most, but I like all the other stuff, so I order a vegetarian burrito and add the chicken. ¡Muy excelente!

Didn't realize finding a mexican restaurant with good food & average margaritas was so tough if I didn't want to cross the 95051 zip code. We settled on this after reading the yelp reviews. This place is in a strip mall, but it is surprisingly big & very very clean! The food is good. My wife had a couple(which is unusual) carnitas tacos. She really liked the flavor & the freshness of the veggies. I had the tamales, it was very flavorful & moist. I have had some bad tamales in the past & was vary while ordering. But they proved me wrong. Our son had the chicken enchiladas & chowed down the whole thing, which I am assuming means it was tasty. But with a 3.5 year old you can never tell. Now lets talk about the Margaritas..they sucked a*%! I am not sure what the concoction was..I could definitely taste tequila..evrything else was foreign to me.Stay away from them.. Go for the food..not for the margaritas. Stick to beer if you want to quench your thirst!

the stuff is good, and Ive been going for years. I went there a lot back in the high school days when the pool hall was a hang out. I haven't ventured too far off the burritos and nachos with an occasional quasadilla or enchilada. They have a few really good gravy-like sauces that they put on their entrees. I like the sauce a lot, but it isn't everybodys cup of tea. If your going there for a fist time id recommend any burrito with the red enchilada sauce. On the downside- they serve their soda in a can. A sneaky way of being stingy with the refills, and their chips are pre packaged which isn't acceptable for a real restaurant. Also the chicken nachos are very good, but I've noticed a significant reduction in the amount of chicken. They use to put a ridiculous amount of pollo in it.

Not good food. I felt bad eating the stuff. There was a lot of leftovers cause no one wanted to eat it...I had to throw away the food the next day! Sad. We ordered two different combos. They were basically the same. Too much red sauce to cover up for a really bland and stale meal. Not recommended.

Came here on a whim one night based on Yelp reviews. It was really good! It takes a lot for me to find a really good Mexican food place but this definitely was really good! I had the amigo burrito which was HUGE. It was really delicious and had a good flavor to it. Had a bit of a kick, which i really liked. The salsa was spicy as well but had a really good flavor - it wasn't just spicy. My boyfriend had the veggie burrito which was also really good. Overall, I'll be back. Yes, their menu is ginormous so you will have a a lot of choices! The only reason it is not a 5 is because their horchata was not very good...

Pretty good burritos and very reasonably priced! The burritos are huge and I usually only have room for half of one (so I get two meals out of it). We usually order take-out, but have eaten there as well. The service is friendly and quick. My only complaint is the chips aren't very good and they don't give you any if you order to go.

Very tasty. El Amigo is located in a strip mall on Steven's Creek, next to the car dealerships and a few other small restaurants. I went there last night for dinner. The service was friendly and fast, but they left us alone to eat in peace, which I like. Dinner comes with salad (iceberg lettuce) and your entree of choice with rice and beans. The menu has everything you're looking for, from burritos, wet burritos, tacos, enchiladas, flautas, etc. I had the El Amigo Super Burrito with carnitas. It came with lettuce on the inside (hooray!) a bit of tomato, cheese, rice, pinto beans, and meat, with guacamole and sour cream on top. For some reason the carnitas version didn't come wet like I thought it would. My friend ordered the same thing with ground beef and hers did come with sauce, so go figure. I didn't miss it though, there was so much food that I have leftovers for one or two more meals, so you get good value for your dollar. If you're a hungry guy, you will go home full. If you're a girl like me who doesn't like to eat until she's stuffed, you will definitely have leftovers. They also have a la carte options at dinner, like if you want just a crunchy taco or two. This place isn't fancy mexican food, and there are some typos on the menu, but the selection and the quality were very nice. I've been looking for a good mexican place for awhile. If they offered black beans and didn't use styrofoam take-out containers, I would probably give 5 stars (what can I say, I'm Northern Californian.)

This place is the home of the "Soup Burrito" as my friend Danny calls it. He likes to take the hot plate El Amigo Burrito, with every thing on it, and just chop it all up until it looks like soup... but it tastes like heaven. The salsa is usually pretty good also. I wouldnt say that there are too many dishes on the menu that I go crazy for, but the Soup Burrito is definitely one have to have at least once a month. Big portions and a bit more expensive than other burrito locations, this place is certainly one of a kind.

I went on a Friday night just before it started to get busy, the chips were stale, probably out of a bag my salad had water in the bottom and the salsa wasnt even fresh. The tall waitress acted like we really in her way. this is our second trip and it will be our last. the prices were higher then before and the food has not in proved at all. the beans are not consistant in flavor and to top it off the chili rellanos tasted like they that been in the fridge for a bit. this is why i gave one star

decent burrito that is HUGE and rather expensive. the service is good and it is busy even at lunchtime. this is more of a sit down place than a grab and go burrito place. would go back but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

Been here twice already, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Food: Had the chilaquiles for breakfast. FREAKIN BOMB, ate every last crumb on my plate. They had a couple other options at breakfast that I want to go back for. Had the Amigo Burrito w/ chile verde for lunch, very large portion with quality flavor. Was beastly hungry and didn't even finish it. The chips are nothin special and the two salsa's they come with are pretty good. Service: Came with a smile both visits, refilled water and beverages on time and bill came quickly as well. This is a for sure repeat, better than the outside appearance lets on and definately better than the couple of poor reviews I've read so far.

for the bay area, this place makes some pretty dang good burritos. i dunno man theres something different about the so. cal burritos and the norcal burritos and i have to say they're usually better in socal. but this place is on the spot. i tried the carne asada burrito and i was not dissapointed. the meat was nice and tender and flavorful. lots of good avocado chunks inside. and no rice. i dont like rice in my burritos. and if you just add some of the salsa on this... yum. good beans and rice too, love beans and rice. the only problem is that its kinda pricey. i pay 4 bucks down south but this one costs like 7 bucks. plus u gotta pay tax and tip, cuz its a sit down restaurant. u end up paying 9 bucks for a burrito... ouch. and thats w/o rice and beans. oh the ones i mentioned up there? my friend gave them to me. so anyway ive heard from my friend Y-dawg that the enchiladas are bomb. i'll have to try them with him here next time. but seriously guys, these ARE pretty darn good. just a bit pricey =(

ehh nothing to rave about, kinda a bit over-priced for what it is and what other restaurants give... the ambiance is gross, velour chairs WITH WHEELS (makes me feel as if I'm a fat-ass and/or at an desk), the food is decent - seems like a spot you either love or don't...

FOOD: The chips were A) outta the bag and B) stale!! The "guacamole" was most definitely from Costco, you know... the guac you buy in bulk for Superbowl Sunday and squeeze outta little plastic bags into a bowl. YOU'RE A MEXICAN RESTAURANT!! If you can't get the chips and guac right, what can you do? It's like going to an Asian restaurant and having them screw up "steamed rice." Geez. ATMOSPHERE: El Amigo was "I'm trying to be a fancy Mexican restaurant so I can jack up the prices" and well... just about everything at this place was below-average. From the waitresses who were dressed way too nice and frowned way too much to the run-down booths... it just wasn't an inviting atmosphere. My carnitas burrito (with actual avocado instead of that "I'm a Mexican restaurant that's too lazy to make my own guac") was pleasantly juicy and tasty - the only thing that saved El Amigo from being marked 1 star in my book.

I thank LDz for showing me this place YEARS ago. She used to live right around the corner, so it was a hot spot for quite some time! I don't think I've ever ordered something besides the El Amigo Burrito Supreme with Chicken. This thing is HUGE! It's about $14 total (with tax and tip), but it's definately a meal for two or two seperate meals. I typcially ask for the guac and crema on the side so it doensn't get gross when you want to eat it later. It's the BEST thing on the menu...I know I know I know how can it be the best if I haven't tried anything else, well...it's cus I know. A total whole-in-the-wall type of place with a super friendly staff and home-style ambiance.

3 stars because the food was decent but not over the top. They wifey thinks this place is better than La Paloma... thank goodness. The chips here taste like the kind that you get in the 10lb bag from costco (the kind that you find at the state fair with the nasty cheese sauce on them). I had thechicken burrito and could not finish it... it was nearly as good the next day heated up in the mike. She had the taco and enchilada plate. She liked them both. I was not a fan of the refried beans.. it was like a pool of grey/brown matter. She liked them (her kind of consistency I guess). We had the margaritas... I'm not sure if those really have tequila or not.. they tasted like the agave wine.. it was a different buzz. I am suspicious as they do not have any liquor outside of beer and wine displayed.... Anyways, we'll be coming back, the wifey is looking forward to trying the camarones a la diabla, and Jennifer T mentioned I should try the chili verde... It's on!

Our favorite place for mexican food (for the price) in the south bay area. When you park, you realize that it's an ugly little strip mall, but inside, they've done their best to have some simple colors, a few plants, and a clean environment. The staff is absolutely amazing. They always smile, and they often remember us and our usual orders even though we only dine there about once a month. Typically, we get burritos because the red sauce that they use on top is better than any I've had in any other Mexican restaurant. It's just spicy enough and tastes slow-cooked, unlike the cheap stuff that tastes like ketchup at some other restaurants. The beans are also perfect, which is usually the sign of a great Mexican restaurant if the beans are well done. Not too runny, not too greasy but also not too "healthy" tasting. The chips are always a little dry, but there's plenty of authentic salsa. Our orders come up extremely fast, and the price can't be beat: about $20 for two entrees and two beers. We drive twenty minutes from home just because we like this place better than most of the expensive Mexican restaurants near us. Even if the simple ambiance is not your style, get take-out food. You won't be sorry.

El amigo burrito has been a monthly excusion for my families friday night dinners for over three years now. there are about 13 of us that go out and they never hesitate to push tables togeather for our large group. the menu is good i always get the carne asada tacos. they do have dinner platters with rice and beans but i like to get ala carte items so i can sample everything. the food is pretty close to authentic but not quite there thats why it only gets 4 stars. the service is great they often remember out usuals.

We came here because we had some time to spare before my boyfriend's hair appointment (next door at Alan's). He was feeling hungry and is always a fan of some Mexican food. I like the decorations of the place. There were cute lil ceramic bull and donkey figures everywhere. The dining area is pretty roomy and there is even a separate section. We got seated at a table for 2 because all the booths were taken. We couldn't cuddle! Oh well. Their little paper placements are SOOO cute! I feel like I'm in a Spanish class because there are many pictures and spanish and english phrases. I got a good mini Spanish lesson out of it. Unfortunately, the food wasn't that good. At the end, we thought .. should've gone to Eduardo's or LaVic's..even Chipotle!! I didn't order anything because I had already eaten. The boyfriend got a PORK TORTA (kinda like a Mexican burger?). It came with a side of house salad and fries. It was very bland and took forever to get to him. The pork was fried and dry. It reminded us of a fish filet (only pork of course) and overcooked and hard. He didn't even finish it. At least the chips and salsa were good. The salsa was homemade and very fresh. The chips seemed like they came from a bag? Don't know what they tasted like though. Perhaps it was just this dish. There were a lot of people here for a Sunday early afternoon. The owners are nice and friendly. I would come back if the food were better. Or maybe to try some new dishes. Their big gigantic burritos sounded great!

One of the best places for authentic mexican food.. I usually go here and get the steak ranchero. They give you big portions of food along with chips and salsa to go with your meal. The food tastes great, and the waitresses are pretty good on seeing what your needs are. I also order a big glass of orchata to go with my meals. The food can at times get pretty damn spicy, which will put you in the hurt department when you're sitting on the toilet. Nice place to go to for lunch or dinner w/ friends or family.

The mole sauce here is amazing. Try anything with their mole sauce, chicken enchiladas or a wet burrito, and you will not be disappointed.

The staff is delightful and the Pacifico's taste great! They give you such generous helpings that I suggest ordering down. I liked the Chicken Taco but the Carnitas left a little bit to be desired. Was left with a very garlic like taste for the rest of the evening. Also, the salsas are pretty interesting but the chips are less than stellar.

I hate sitting at work, and 11:45 rolls around, and my stomach starts asking me "what's for lunch?" You know the feeling. I hate most fast food , so I often find myself googling nearby lunch places. As a fan of Mexican food, I more often than not, end up eating here. Call ahead and pick up, if eating on a lunch hour. By the name of it, you'd think it was a quick in and out place, but its actually a sit down restaurant, that also does take out. I usually get the Chile Relleno. mmmmm they make them better than many places Ive ever been. Also good is the breakfast burritos(potato, egg, cheese and bacon) with a buttload of their hot sauce on each bite:) The pico, and chips are really good too.

This is the spot to go to for authentic Mexican food!! i am definitely a fan of La Vic's but this place has rocked my world for years and years, NO JOKE! the atmosphere is very mom & pops, the people that work there are the sweetest people ever! they're usually busy because their food is so freakin' good! their burritos are the BOMB diggity! so i give it a FIVE star, due to the service, the authenticity and the grubbage! it's on Stevens Creek boulevard, so next time you're near there give it a try! perfect for groups, kids and dates even! it's chill!

I have been here three times already and each time has been great! I'm a huge fan of the chile vedre plate. There sauce is nice and green as it should be with a good amount of spice. Beautiful large chunks of tender pork too. Not a bunch of fat and grissle like some other places. Customer service is as good as the food! So glad to have a good Mexican place close to home! Thanks Amigo :-)

A friend told me that this place was their family favorite years ago, but stupidly, I didn't try them right away. I thought, doesn't look like much to me... When I finally got around to visiting I instantly declared it my most favorite place for a burrito. They are SO GOOD!!!! And could the staff be any friendlier?? I love this place!!! The thing I like most? You can order ahead and then pick your food up to enjoy at home!!! You simply must try it!! Just don't make the same mistake I did and wait too long!

I only come here for one thing... the ginormous El Amigo Burrito. Burrito mojado smothered in red sauce, sour cream, guacamole, cheese... *drooooool*. I'd go on but describing it just makes me want to stop writing Yelp reviews and go pick one up!

We have been coming here for over 5 years now and still love the fresh food. My Father in-law who can't handle spicy food loves to come here every time he is in town. The service is awesome and welcoming. The re-fried beans and rice are actually authentic without all the normal fillers that most Mexican restaurants add. We have not had a bad or disappointing meal. Oh, did I mention that I grew up eating Mexican food.......

My family and I discovered this little "hole in the wall" Mexican Restaurant shortly after they opened. We have been going ever since. The food is always excellent and the service is wonderful! My faves are the Machaca con Huevos (stewed beef with tomatoes, peppers and onions, scrambled with eggs) and the Chimichanga. This truly is the best in Santa Clara!

El Amigo? Que bebidas antes de comer? The texture of this food could not be more off. I felt like I was eating food from a super bowl party and a bag of Tostitos. I guess if your into the "white wash" version of Mexican food, this might be your bag of Tostitos.

(this is a breakfast review - the search for the perfect Huevos Rancheros) I arrived at 10 AM when the restaurant opened and ordered the HR with flour tortillas. The salsa was of the watery variety as opposed to the saucy salsa that I prefer and it was accompanied by round corn chips - I didn't care very much for either one. The red sauce on the HR was bland and the normally innocent refried beans agitated me with their saltiness (oh yes, put me on *edge* !). When all was said and done it came to $10 with tip. I don't feel this is a place where Huevos Rancheros was done any justice although I would definitely return to try out the expansive lunch and dinner menu; it seems other reviewers quite liked the place and I'm eager to see how they compensate for the forgettable Huevos Rancheros. [sidenote about the service: I don't usually comment about the service as I feel it's separate from the food but I have to say the lone waitress made me feel like I was putting a big crimp in her day by wanting to have breakfast. Walking in I was greeted with a curt "Yeah? Can I help you?" I don't know what she was thinking but evidently, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.] (Update April 4, 2007) I'm eating a take out wet burrito (w/chicken) lunch special as I type this and I must say I'm not impressed at all. The lunch special comes with refried beans and rice while the burrito has some beans, sauce, and the chicken in it. It's boring and the taste is so flat I had to add some salsa of my own to give it any flavor. For $10 I'm really disappointed - I expected a lot better.

I really love the food here. I have never had a bad meal, but on occasion they have been a little slow getting your entree to you. Its usually worth the wait though. The prices are a little bit higher than the average Mexican Restaurant, but not too bad. The decor is very authentic and not much to report. I can honestly say it's my favorite Mexican Restaurant

This is a live review of me eating with 1 hand and typing this with the other. Ordered the VEGETARIAN burrito, a la carte...MMM a perfect blend of beans rice cheese tomatoes and lettuce. After the 1st bite: omg so good and...hot!! *Bites again* and none of the ingredients overpower the other. You know how sometimes you get too much beans, cheese or tortilla? i didnt get any of that here. With 5 bucks in 10 min. what else could i want... Wouldnt have gone here if it wasnt for yelp cuz Ive seen it before but it looked so shady from the outside so i never bothered even though I pass by it all the time. Wow. Ok I think I downed that in 5 minutes too..but Im full. Amigo Burrito's # is now on my cell.

I almost always get a pork verde El Amigo Burrito. Its so delicious and they give you a huge portion. The staff is friendly and the food is up quickly. It's a cute little place tucked away in a small plaza near the Santa Clara Billiards.

Delicious authentic Mexican food. The Service here is great!!! My bf and I are always on the run and whenever we call to pre-order the recognize our voices and know what we want...now that is awesome service. The chicken enchiladas and the carne asada dinners are to die for!!! Delicious!

The food here was incredibly bland. bleh! I will never come back. We tried this place one day for lunch because it was recommended to us, but we were NOT impressed. I couldn't believe how much our bill ended up being for such poor tasting food.

El Amigo has great food. Their crispy tacos are excellent and the buritto's are served just the way I like them: molten-lava hot. The thing that impresses me are that the rice and beans are actually really tasty and well cooked. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants where the entrees are good but then they serve bland rice & beans. Not here. The salsa is also really, really good. They can get crowded, especially at lunch on weekdays, so make sure to get there early.

This place is terrible. There food is so bland and not even all that filling. The only reason that I go there is because my girlfriend loves the place so much. The chips taste like they are stale and dry, horrible salsa, and there salad feels like it came from a bag from Costco. If you are in the area and need to get some Mexican food, don't go to this place. Chevy's would be a better place.

Chicken burrito was awesome - not greasy at all and stuffed with what seemed like a full chicken - very tasty. Service was very friendly and food came fast. Would prefer fountain drinks, but cans work for them I guess!

I was recommended this place by a person I'm working for while in Santa Clara this month. I was a little "concerned" by the name (with "Burrito", it sounds like a "fast food" type place), but what the he**... I gave it a try anyway.... And I'm glad I did.... It's a little hard to find (very small sign in a strip mall), looks like a very standard hole-in-the-wall, sandwiched between a karate training center and a Chinese restaurant. Although the chips looked like Tostito small rounds right out of the bag, the Pico De Gallo was among the fresher and better I've had (I don't like a lot of onions in mine). I ordered the Chili Colorado here, and when it came out (fairly quickly), I got the obligatory warning about a hot plate. Only this time they were darned serious. It was almost too hot to eat.... I let it sit for a few minutes (working on finishing the bowl of Pico De Gallo - LOL ) and when it cooled enough to eat, it was pretty tasty. I'd come back again, but probably not for the burritos... Not because of taste, but because it looks like I could get three meals out of one of those, and I stay in hotels without refrigerators :)

After working at Kaiser SCL for over 8 years, El Amigo is THE go to spot for Mexican! My whole department of 30 people is hooked actually, including 2 coworkers who grew up in mexico that sing the praises of the food. there is one downside from 5stars: the chips are terrible! It's like the round, store bought dry tostitos... No the thin, greasy homeade goodness at most other Mexican rstaurants of this caliber. Waitress are super nice!
(5)
Shalee S.
I ordered ahead and picked up lunch for the guys at work and even though I called ahead I had to wait a while. The food was decent but a bit over priced. The chips are horrible and for me chips are essential when going to a Mexican restaurant. It's like the first impression to the rest of the meal. Probably would not come back just because you can get better for cheaper and again the chips.

The best hole in the wall mom and pop Mexican restaurant in the South Bay. Go there and order the house specialty, the Amigo Burrito. Choose your meat and a short time later the biggest burrito you've ever seen will come out on a plate so hot it'll burn you. You might look at the outside of the business and think "Nah, I'll keep driving." Don't! Go in and have a seat. The friendly staff will have you gorged on burrito goodness in no time at all. Might want to bring a wheelbarrow to carry yourself out on. I will shave my head for anyone who can get me the recipe to their chunky table salsa. It's not very spicy, but has a flavor that reduces everyone into a state of bliss.

El Amigo Burrito is a sort of hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant on Stevens Creek Blvd. The restaurant itself is very clean, and service was fast and friendly. Our waitress was hilarious--she kept coming back with all sorts of pens that wouldn't work, but she managed to make it a funny situation rather than something to get upset about. The food was good: the chicken enchiladas were well made, but my chile relleno was soggy and lacking flavor. In all, no single element was bad enough to turn me off of going back, but it was definitely not anything to write home about.

This is a tough one for me. My family makes authentic Mexican food, and so it is difficult to go to any Mexican restaurant and not be overly critical. I often get dragged to places and end up thinking hmmmm, my dad can make this better, or my mom can make this better. I have eaten here over 10 times, and I have really never been disappointed. I think I just can't get over the name. Anything with the word "burrito" in it makes me think it can't have authentic food. So, one Sunday morning I decided to give it the real test -- Take my dad and his friends there after a night of drinking. Now this could have proven to be very bad for me, because if they hated it, I would never get to pick a restaurant again. As I suspected, all of them were horrified when I told them the name was El Amigo Burrito, and they almost all got out of the car, but I dragged them there anyway. I'm glad to report that everyone enjoyed their meal. The wait staff will talk Spanish to you, and they will take any requests you have for something that is not on the menu. The beans are well made and have just enough cheese on them, and the rice is moist as it should be. If you are in the mood for something different, try the Chilaquiles; corn tortillas that are cut up and fried with scrambled eggs and a ranchero sauce. They cover these in cheese and serve it with some beans. I can also vouch for the flautas (taquitos), the chile rellenos. Upon final vote, the food is authentic, even if the name makes you think otherwise. And for you burrito fans, they have those as well, and they will not disappoint.

This is place is by far one of the best mex. restaraunts in the area. I have been going here on a regular basis for about 14 years now. The quality and taste has not changed one bit. I usually get chicken enchiladas or the chicken quesadilla. The enchilada sauce (red) is by far one of the best I have had anywhere. Even the enchilada sauce on the pork ones (green) is super yummy! I usually order my stuff a la carte so not sure bout how the rice and beans fare in this place. Service is always good, the ladies are friendly. I usually get disappointed when I try other mex. places because I always compare them to El Amigo, and very few live up to this place. Try it yourself and find out!

Quite a find! Nestled amongst the car dealerships on Steven's Creek, there is a strip mall that includes this gem. The pico de gallo salsa is the best I've ever been served, though the chips are boring. I like the vegetarian El Amigo Super Burrito, though it has practically no beans and there is a red (roja) sauce instead of my preferred green (verde, i.e. tomatillo). I've found service slow even when it isn't a rush time, but it's usually that they are serving a lot of tables, not that they are inattentive. Worth checking out.

My last review wasn't very good so I decided to give it an update. I still love coming here. I do agree with some of the posts that the chips can be bad sometimes, sometimes they are stale, but they do the job of scopping up that wonderful pico! I can eat the whole bowl of it on my own if I wasn't waiting for the mother of all food. The chicken chimichanga! This thing is huge, a foot ball sized ball of fried tortilla filled with the most moist, well flavored chicken, hot beans, and rice. This is really all I ever order. I even brought a friend here who ordered it and agreed it's the best chimichanga in San Jose. If I'm really hungry, I can eat the whole thing. Otherwise I ask for sour cream and guac on the side and reheat and eat the next day. The shell gets kind of funky, but I just eat the filling out of it and it's still good. My boyfriend likes their quesdillas (the chicken quesdillas have the same filling as the chimichanga, soooooo good) and their cheese enchaladas. You can order your meal a la carte and come out under $20 for two people. What a deal for some hot, great Mexican food. The only down side is that the soda comes in cans, so if you want more, you have to pay for that second can.

Wow, refreshing place! Car was being worked on at the stereo shop nearby...and this came as a recommendation. Promptly seated and out came a HUGE bowl of chips along with 2 different types of salsa. I'm thinking, "I'm already falling in love, it's like they know me already..." One bowl is red salsa taqueria, and the other bowl is pico de gallo. Both had a little kick, just the way it sits right, in my belly. I ordered the Huevos Divorciados since it was breakfast time. Eggs over medium (my preference) with red sauce on one egg and green sauce on the other. Served with rice and refried beans, both better than the standard fare found at most small Mexican food places. Ordered the corn tortillas to accompany, and they were hot too. Overall, the food was excellent (read: freaking DELICIOUS), extra star since the food came out piping hot like another reviewer mentioned, and it really satisfied me for quite a while. Coffee was good (better than some american cafe's) too. The server mentioned they just re-did the place. The walls were freshly painted, everything in front looked new, and there was the sound of construction while I was eating which didn't bother me since the food was so good. Props to the manager who didn't question me when I left to go grab a paper at the liquor store a few doors down Food: 4 stars + 1 bonus star for extra hot Service: 4 stars, polite, refilled my coffee and good recommendation Atmosphere: 5 stars, considering they were finishing up construction. Everything was clean, looked fresh, and not too loud. I'm going back here again, and bringing the wifey and kid!

I finally went to El Amigo after working and living near it for just under a decade. I hadn't checked out the yelps on it in a while so I went ahead and got the El Amigo burrito with Carnitas. HOLY CRAP!!!!!! That was the biggest burrito I have ever seen! A total fork and knife-r, there is NO picking up this bad boy. Needless to say, I didn't even get through it. It smelled delish, it tasted amazing. The cheese was all melty and stringy coming out of it. Amazing.

I have been going to El Amigo Burrito since it was on Saratoga Avenue going way back to its beginning. I still make pilgrimage with various friends and family to it's Santa Clara location and have NEVER been disappointed. I especially like their chorizo con huevos (almost like my grandmother's) - YUM. I've had their chile verde, carnitas, flautas, caldos and I've always come out very satisfied. Hasn't failed my taste buds since 1992!

I gotta say this place is pretty decent I had a simple carne asada burrito which was 80% meat! Perfect proportions, tasty salsa, and resonably priced! Highly recommended for a good lunch spot in the south bay.... Oh yeah and free refills on horchata!!!

was good food for lunch. great prices and selection of your mexican cuisine. i thought the enchilada was good. lunch only came with one. my colleague got a burrito. now that was a big burrito. good size and a lot of food. you walk away full.

This was a pretty satisfying experience. We walked in and got seated pretty quickly. Chips and salsa took a few minutes to get to our table. The chips looked (and tasted) like they had just come out of a Tositos Bag, but the pico de gallo was very good (fresh!). The other salsa, some liquid tomato one, was decent. My friends ordered horchata and jamaica. Both come with unlimited refills, and both were pretty good, though the horchata was better. Everyone at our table either ordered the chicken burrito or the carne asada burrito, both of which are $7.50. They took a long time to come (almost 15 minutes), but it was worth it when they came. They were HUGE, and came smothered in guacamole, sour cream, and some sauce. The burritos were very, very good. All in all, a reasonable price for a great burrito.

I come here about once a week for lunch and the food is always fantastic. We get the same waitress every time, and the service is always top-notch. This is the best mexican food in the area by far!

I love this place! The servers are polite, and as soon as you sit down you get a plate of chips with 2 types of salsa. Not bad! One is spicy, you have to try it if you go there. Sometimes when the food isn't ready yet, they will offer you more chips, which really fills you up by the time your food arrives. The only drawback is no refills on soda. However that allows them to have both Pepsi and Coke branded beverages. I love the margaritas there as well, just one gets the room spinning. I only had the a la carte burritos there, coz I'm a cheap ass, plus why mess with perfection? Going there and not eating a burrito would be like a crime. They very rarely mess up an order (when you're picky like me, you gotta customize you stuff). Just one more thing, the plates are super hot when they bring them.

I had a friend recommend this place to me. we were helped immediately. We both ordered the chicken burrito, with "the green sauce on top" and in the mean time, they gave us chips and salsa. When they gave us the burritos, they were HUGE! And covered in the "green sauce", along with guacamole, and sour cream. It was a pretty good burrito. Very fresh, and cheesy. Recommended to any burrito lovers!

I love this place! I've been going here since I was 8. My family and I love and always choose "the el amigo burrito". The pico de gayo is really good and they have really good limeande. The price is right too.

Wow! What a great surprise... I dropped my car off at America's Tires and was starving. I walked over to a little plaza next door and found El Amigo. I was seated immediately and warmly. I ordered the Chicken Fajito Burrito and a Pacifico.... they had chips & salsa on my table within 30 seconds. I popped my beer, had a few sips then BAM! Here comes an enormous burrito... oh my goodness, it was amazing... of course I was starving, but still it was great. Very good portion for the price. Happily surprised. I can only speak for the Fajito Burrito and the great service.

OH my goodness the food here is so great. Always fresh, and made to order. I dont even think they own a microwave. I have never had a wrong order there, or bad service. The people are great. I recommend the El Amigo Burrito. I somewhat customize according to my taste, but it is still great.

My Chicken Enchiladas with Mole (didn't know it was partly chocolate) sauce plate was straight-out-the-oven hot, done to perfection. I highly recommend that plate. Great Horchata--not too sweet or powdery, and sliced orange for presentation. Their Maica drink was good, too. Very satisfying service and food. Can't wait to come back.

This place is near my mom's house so we go often. I like the Shrimp a la Diabla, as it's nice and spicy - and not as expensive as some places. We also like the Carne Asada burrito, and sometimes get nachos-as-a-meal. Also, even though it isn't really a place for drinking, they actually put nontrivial amounts of tequila in their margaritas - unlike some chain places - so be careful.

Good portions, but you pay a little more than your typical burrito place. Its a sit down and order type of restaurant, which is somewhat uncommon for burrito joints(they do serve more than burritos). You get chips and two types of salsa for free, and their salsa is quite good(one of them is fairly spicy). I had the house specialty burrito, which in retrospect I should have ordered with sourcream/guac on the side. It is a huge burrito, and should satisfy almost any appetite combined with the chips. It comes out VERY hot, so make sure you arent already dying from salsa spice when you eat it, or you're in for a world of hurt. The meat is seasoned well, and the burrito doesnt fall apart toward the end. The lighting inside is a little dim, and the decor isnt much to write home about. They have a microwave in the kitchen, which is sort of disconcerting, but the taste of the food cant really be argued with, microwave use or not. Overall its definetly worth a try, should not disappoint most burrito lovers despite its corny name. Edit: Came here again and had the Enchilada's with Mole sauce. Not so great. Maybe I'm just not used to the taste of Mole sauce, but I had a hard time finishing because of the strange sweet/salty flavor with a hint of cocoa(i think). Burrito here is still good though!

Just had lunch here with a couple of coworkers. We all agreed it was "okay." Chicken is shredded, salsa is fine - not great, chips are Costco. It is inexpensive and the service is prompt. For great Mexican, keep looking.

The food is good! It's simple and straight forward. Good vegetarian options. The chicken is broiled rather than grilled. Don't go too close to closing time, because they tend to rush you. Oh, the chips are not as good as you'd hope them to be.

I agree with Jay L - food was a bit bland. Huge portions but I wouldn't drive far to eat here.

ordered the shredded chicken burrito. It lacks the taste very bland, blah. Plus, the cost of food is kind of expensive for something doesn't even taste that good. I would rather eat at taco bell than come back here.

Really loved the Tamales. Covered with a very savory enchilada sauce, they hit the spot. Mexican comfort food. On previous trips, I've had the El Amigo Burrito ( chicken ) which was wonderful, and there was enough left over to provide me 2 additional meals at home.

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. I've been going here ever since I was a wee lass (pretty much since it opened, but I was too young to remember) and it has ALWAYS been my favorite restaurant. Basically in the middle of a crappy, shady looking building and super easy to miss but it is a small piece of heaven. We used to live 45 minutes away and would happily make the drive anytime we had a craving. My family, grandparents, boyfriend, and friend always go here. Sooooo good. I bring anyone I can. It's almost always packed with customers. Certain hours are slow but before you know it, people are spilling in the door. I always get the vegetarian burrito with sauce on top and guac and sour creme on the side (so it isn't weird after I take it home). Staff is always very friendly. A-maz-ing. P.S.: When ordering takeout, if you want the awesome sauce on top you have to ask for it. With take out, it isn't included on the burritos.

the most enjoyable burrito experience i've had so far in san jose.... true, i've only lived here for three months. chips arrive. the chips are kind of ghetto... totally bagged. but the salsa and pico de gallo are delicious. i ordered a super el amigo burrito that was vegetarian, and my friend got chicken. it came out smothered in enchilada sauce with heaps of sour cream and guacamole on top. the plates were molten lava hot, which is always a sign of a good restaurant. the burrito was enormous, the service was good, the interior was classic clean, hole in the wall style. and it was so delish. i ate the whole thing. no joke. im gonna give it another shot this weekend with the boyfriend and try out some of the burritos. went to play pool afterwards at santa clara billiards and i was too full to have a beer!

Nelli S.
Try the chicken enchilada suiza with flour tortilla instead of corn. So good. Refried beans are awesome. Wine and beer only, so don't make the mistake of ordering a margarita. Great beer selection, so you should be okay. Yes chips are stale, salsa is so-so, but main dish more than made up for it. Good service, friendly people, interior a little outdated. Bonus points for using energy efficient lights, but should remove a few because it's pretty bright in there now. I love this local spot. We eat there about once a month.

I am addicted to their signature El Amigo Burrito, it comes smothered in a delicious sauce, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream, yum. The other things I've tried on the menu like the chili colorado have also been very good. Well worth trying.

solid restaurant mexican food. when i used to come here way back when, favorites included enchilada's, wet burritos, and some sort of breakfast machaca that the ex used to order. service is just average, the waiters do a decent job, however the manager (family operated) is typically looming around in a foul mood. since then, ive found other establishments that have better service and food just as good, if not better. see review above.

Good solid REAL authentic Mexican food. I have eaten Mexican food for many, many years from San Antonio to Houston to Chicago to various California locations and a few in Mexico. This food is very good. I just had their Chili Verde last night and I must say that it was the best I've had. Most Chili Verde (plate) dinners that I've had before are too salty,And if you are lucky, the rice can balance the "too much salt". Sometimes there is no hope.. This Chile Verde was perfect! Great overall flavor and not too salty. Also I like VERY spicey food and this was suffiencty spicey enough for me and not too spicey for the average person who likes medium spicey. I've eaten here before and had beef enchilada (plate) dinner as well as tamales and they were pretty good as well. I'm not a burrito fan but I have to assume they are very good also. HIghly recommend this restaurant if you want real, autthentic, home-made food.

Best Vegetarian burrito, actually best burrito ever!! Nacho's could be a little better though. not fresh, they seem to be out of the package. Everything else was really fresh. Good service.

Been going here over 15 years. Prices, going up, and quality, going down. They have the best iced tea ever and their salsa is awesome but their chips are terrible. They USED to have the best ground beef, not anymore. They still have AWESOME refried beans, but their rice, not like it used to be. And the owners are snobs.

We've been going to El Amigo for about 20 years. It was originally on Saratoga Ave. and moved to Stevens Creek about 10 years ago. With the exception of their "Tostitos" like chips, everything else is delicious! My personal faves...beef cocido on Fridays, chile verde, carne asada burrito and soft tacos. Their breakfast burrito w/eggs, chorizo & potatoes is great after a night of cocktails. Speaking of, their sangria is a keeper! El Amigo's flan is my favorite of all. Nice and smooth, not eggy at all. Love the caramelized sugar...mmm!

My wife and I have been going here for about 2 years now. Someone told us they had great burritos and so we gave them a try. In the beginning we agreed - great burritos. Now as time has gone on, we're noticing that sometimes the steak is just too tough. We've almost exclusively done take-out, but did eat inside once about a year ago. We were very disappointed in how long it took to get served. We decided the other day to try dining in again and were again very disappointed. I had the chicken taquitos and they were pretty bland. They put the taquitos right on top of the refried beans, so that when you pick them up you not only get a mouthful of beans mixed with the taquito, but the taquito is also a bit soggy. And, again, the service was VERY slow. And this time they weren't even very crowded. The waitress seemed extremely rushed and a bit rude. Maybe they were just short staffed? Or maybe it's a management problem in that they don't want to pay for another waiter. Either way, we decided we will never actually go there to eat anymore, we may try take out burritos again, but we're pretty much done with the place.

We love El Amigo Burrito for their menu variety & quality ingredients. The wet burritos are great, along with the mojo de ajo shrimp. Portions are huge, so come hungry.

I came here for the first time with a friend about two weeks ago. Service is wonderful, A+! The waitress was extremely personable and I love that the restaurant is family-owned and operated. The chips and salsa that they start you off with are great. It took a little while for our food to come, but I understand, since the place was pretty packed the night we went. I ordered a simple chicken burrito since I have little experience with Mexican food. I asked them to replace the beans with rice, which they had no problem doing. The burrito was large and covered with this delicious Enchilada sauce (I ended up scraping every last bit of it off the plate because I simply couldn't get enough). The burrito was $6.95, which I believe is a great price.

I work across the street and love coming in here for the breakfast burritos. Their home made salsa makes you want to buy a tub of it. I will definitely continue to purchase food here.

This is the second time that my girlfriend and I have visited El Amigo. Our server was downright awful. The best that she did was take our orders. After that our drink orders were forgotten and she was unapologetic about forgetting. We sat patiently eating chips and sipping on water for a good half hour without being checked on. We thought it was odd, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. When food arrived at two other tables that arrived 10-15 mins after us, we got mad. Another server went in and got our food and my girlfriend's order was wrong. I give a cautious two stars because the food was reasonably good both times. The last experience with that server made the whole place not worth going to though.

Had made reservation for a party of 8. When we arrived we we're seated. It was like here you go and left us there for 15min till someone came by to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then we waited another 20 min or longer for someone to come by and ask what we like to order. The servers seem to Gossip in the kitchen a lot and not focus on their customer. A Family member noticed from one of the servers that she was making fun of us with hand gestures with the coworker like talk talk talk. Of course we are going to talk over dinner. I know it was getting close towards the time they close. It felt like they wanted us to hurry up and swallow are food and leave. Well, if the service was checking on us and we didn't have to wait for someone to come by and help us then we would of finished our meal a lot sooner and not make it a 2 hour meal. The food is ok, nothing to blog about. I have to say that the service is not up to par and they will continue to lose business if they don't make changes. Would I have another family dinner event there? NO.

oh I love El Amigo! I always get the carne asada el amigo burrito with sauce on top! They used to give you unlimited refills on Horchata until they realize people can drink a lot! and the free refills stopped. Chips and salsa is nothing to write home too so i rarely eat there. But my burrito is perfection every time i order togo. We've been going for many years and the taste is always delicious. I don't know if it's super authentic since I've never been to mexico but it tastes good to me!

I was surprised on how good this place was, the service was excellent, and the food exceeded my expectations. I came in for lunch the other day and was seated very quickly and with in a minute or two a waitress was there with chips and salsa, and I was already ready to order. The menu was classic Mexican so I just ordered there lunch special burrito chili verde which came with beans and rice. The food came out quick and hot! The burrito was very good, the meat was super tender and very flavorful. The waitress was super nice and offered to fill my drink before it was even empty. I really liked this place and I will be back soon.

Ordered dinner last night for pick up. The food was ready faster than expected. The staff was very friendly. The price for nachos was kind of high (I think I paid $10.00) especially since there was no salsa or rice. Over-all very happy. Big enough portions to share!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(5)Delia C.
(5)Consumer D.
I don't care how good this turns out to be, I'll never come back. Been waiting almost an hour for a $50 bag of tacos.
(1)Mark F.
(3)Dylan S.
(3)Jasmine P.

YUMMY! :D
(5)Robert C.
Good service, good food and good prices. I will deff. come back for more.

(1)Ignacio O.
This place has some awesome chicken nachos with a little rice on them, cheese, jalapenos no beans. Awwwwwwww Yeaaaaaah :-)
(5)Prateek M.
Food is ok .. say 2 star and service is slow. Took approx 35 min to get the food on table. One more start for being courteous
(3)Johnny A.
(5)Eric R.
Best Chili Colorado I have ever had! Generous, no fat and flavorful. Reasonably priced. The chili Rellenos are cooked fresh and not reheated. Everything else is kind of bland. The chili colorado, chili verde and chili rellenos are worth the stop here and are solid!

This place has good food and a strong margarita. Strong local following here and a family-friendly atmosphere

(4)Amy O.
The salsa is awesome. The service is slightly slow. And the food...mmmm....tastey.
(4)Sel A.
(3)Anh T.
(4)Carl S.
Great service. Went here for lunch with my friends who have never been. They enjoyed it as well. The food came out fast and the waitress was very nice and helpful.

(4)Shadi N.
(4)Mark B.
(2)Louise W.
(2)Brian B.

(1)Jasmine S.
i don't try a lot of different food when i got here; i typically stick with my favorite chicken burrito! the chicken is always moist and seasoned well and i get the burrito itself drenched in enchilada sauce and cheese! their salsas are pretty good as well. never had a margarita there, but their horchata is pretty bomb! ps: it's too much food! their serving sizes are HUGE! i'm pretty sure i usually end up with a tummy ache after eating here... i overstuff myself everytime!
(4)cali c.
(3)David G.
(3)Cindy O.
(5)Alan R.

(5)Kelly L.
I love this place. I have even grown to love the chips and salsa, which initially was not my fave. But really, I love the frozen margaritas. The rocks margarita is bad; frozen is where it is at!
(4)Michael G.

Very good food and good service. I think this is a family owned business. I love the chicken mole here. Two thumbs way up!!

(4)Daniel R.
The service was crap. I never did get that glass of water I asked for. I know we came in an hour before closing but there is no reason to ignore a table of four people hungry and willing to pay for food. I would not go back

Can never deviate from the el amigo carna asada Burrito. One of the best around

Best chili verde ever!!!! Service is great.

(3)Kristi D.
(5)Tania A.
This place is sooo fake. I was about to getup and leave. I didn't like to food, or the food options. This place might as well be Taco bell. Fake Mexican food.
(1)Sylvia S.
(4)James L.
Excellent service Awesome Chicken burrito with shreded chicken. Add sour cream and rice to make it a full meal Just the chicken burrito is pretty filling. Horcheta..!?! tastes fresh I'm sure there are more on the menu to choose from. The prices are decent

(4)Charlotte B.
(5)Mike M.
(2)Sharon T.
(3)Noel M.
Meh, it's only ok but that hasn't stopped me from going back. Plus, the portions are huge. There's only two things that really disappoint me: the sangria is nothing special and the beef choice for the tacos and enchiladas is ground.
(3)sonya h.
3 stars! I am a big fan of Mexican food...came here twice and wasn't too impressed. I thought they had decent food but their prices are a little on the high side. Service was nice and you get free chips and salsa I still prefer La Vics over El Amigo (perhaps it's the orange sauce that captivates me).
(3)Stephanie K.
They make a really awesome carne asada burrito. Real chunks of meat, well seasoned. The chips are okay, but the salsa is lacking--it's too spicy and too thin to really enjoy. And unfortunately they don't have a liquor license, so margaritas are out of the question. But the beer is good:)
(3)Erika O.
(5)Regina B.

(5)Christella T.

Was medi-ocre.

(4)Edwin S.
best steak tortas...it comes with steak fries and a salad!!! I used to work next door at a dealership and got hooked. now I drive from Monterey Bay to eat there! great place to dine in....very nice people and good service!!! they get packed on lunch and dinner hours!
(5)Stephanie B.
i really don't like this place. i've eaten here a couple of times. the burritos are mostly veggies. the service is alright. the chips are eh.. the salsa is eh.. i've had better mexican. i perfer to just eat something from barefoot if anything.
(2)Ashleigh E.
(3)Ashley Q.
(5)Danni M.

Low quality ingredients, tasteless, unhealthy food. Why???
(1)LoveMeTender t.
This place is ok 10.00 burritos and not that great. sorry..
(1)Casey C.
It's pretty hard to mess up mexican food. But the food here was crap. Service was standard...
(2)Joe H.
(3)L. M. B.
YUM! This place needs more stars. The staff is beyond friendly and always on top of the refills.
(5)Michelle C.
(2)Kim D.
(3)Michele W.
Located in a yucky strip mall, but it's ok. Food is pretty good. They only have wine and beer though. I tried to order a margarita, but found out they make them out of wine? A little weird.
(3)Dave L.
(3)Shellie W.
(5)lisa m.
(4)Grant L.
I love this place, it's hard for me to finish the food b/c it's so fulfilling but man o man I love getting my mexican food here. When you get here don't let the strip mall fool you, it may look outdated but it gives the places there a nice neighborhood feel with no franchises.
(4)Mike H.

(3)Salem T.
(2)Mama H.
(5)Cathy C.
We went here for an early dinner and started off with several lemon drops! The waitress was a doll, very sweet and helpful. The salsa and chips were delish! Had the enchiladas, which did not disappoint!!
(3)Lauren J.
I absolutely love their chile verde burrito. It's so hard for me to order anything else. I have had a few other items on the menu which were all good, and I love their rice and beans. The place is very clean and the staff is friendly.
(4)Randy M.
(3)Adrian B.
the stuff is good, and Ive been going for years. They use to put a ridiculous amount of pollo in it.

best south of the border food i have ver had in san jose outside of sanjose no. the rice and beans are sooo yummyfull the chili verde burrito best thing ther !
(5)Vanessa P.
Not good food. I felt bad eating the stuff. There was a lot of leftovers cause no one wanted to eat it...I had to throw away the food the next day! Sad. We ordered two different combos. They were basically the same. Too much red sauce to cover up for a really bland and stale meal. Not recommended.
(2)Sara C.
(4)Becca C.

My dad still resents me for taking him here. He had ONE shot while in the bay area to get his Mexican Food fix and I took him here. It wasn't terrible, but I was underwhelmed and he was disappointed.

(1)Katharine A.
decent burrito that is HUGE and rather expensive. the service is good and it is busy even at lunchtime. this is more of a sit down place than a grab and go burrito place. would go back but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.
(3)Justin M.
This is a for sure repeat, better than the outside appearance lets on and definately better than the couple of poor reviews I've read so far.

for the bay area, this place makes some pretty dang good burritos. i dunno man theres something different about the so. cal burritos and the norcal burritos and i have to say they're usually better in socal. but this place is on the spot. i tried the carne asada burrito and i was not dissapointed. the meat was nice and tender and flavorful. lots of good avocado chunks inside. and no rice. i dont like rice in my burritos. and if you just add some of the salsa on this... yum. good beans and rice too, love beans and rice. the only problem is that its kinda pricey. i pay 4 bucks down south but this one costs like 7 bucks. plus u gotta pay tax and tip, cuz its a sit down restaurant. u end up paying 9 bucks for a burrito... ouch. and thats w/o rice and beans. oh the ones i mentioned up there? my friend gave them to me. so anyway ive heard from my friend Y-dawg that the enchiladas are bomb. i'll have to try them with him here next time. but seriously guys, these ARE pretty darn good. just a bit pricey =(
(4)Mike D.
ehh nothing to rave about, kinda a bit over-priced for what it is and what other restaurants give... the ambiance is gross, velour chairs WITH WHEELS (makes me feel as if I'm a fat-ass and/or at an desk), the food is decent - seems like a spot you either love or don't...
(2)Christine N.

OOOOOH man. food was great!

(5)Matt H.

(4)Andrew T.

(2)Tam H.
(4)Carina P.
The mole sauce here is amazing. Try anything with their mole sauce, chicken enchiladas or a wet burrito, and you will not be disappointed.
(5)Matt B.
(3)Sarah B.
(4)Yasmin R.
This is the spot to go to for authentic Mexican food!! i am definitely a fan of La Vic's but this place has rocked my world for years and years, NO JOKE! the atmosphere is very mom & pops, the people that work there are the sweetest people ever! they're usually busy because their food is so freakin' good! their burritos are the BOMB diggity! so i give it a FIVE star, due to the service, the authenticity and the grubbage! it's on Stevens Creek boulevard, so next time you're near there give it a try! perfect for groups, kids and dates even! it's chill!
(5)Dennis M.
(4)Angela W.
(5)Danny T.
I only come here for one thing... the ginormous El Amigo Burrito. Burrito mojado smothered in red sauce, sour cream, guacamole, cheese... *drooooool*. I'd go on but describing it just makes me want to stop writing Yelp reviews and go pick one up!
(5)Nathan N.
(4)Mark E.
(5)Ryan F.
El Amigo? Que bebidas antes de comer? The texture of this food could not be more off. I felt like I was eating food from a super bowl party and a bag of Tostitos. I guess if your into the "white wash" version of Mexican food, this might be your bag of Tostitos.

Decent place. Decent decor. Okay/Good Food. And crazy quantity!!! Cheap/Decent prices. Good if you are looking for a quick cheap filling meal.
(3)Ed P.

Chicken Mole is to die for !!!! Best on the planet
(5)Jennifer L.
(4)M K.
(5)Crystal O.
I almost always get a pork verde El Amigo Burrito. Its so delicious and they give you a huge portion. The staff is friendly and the food is up quickly. It's a cute little place tucked away in a small plaza near the Santa Clara Billiards.
(5)Mckenzie E.
Delicious authentic Mexican food. The Service here is great!!! My bf and I are always on the run and whenever we call to pre-order the recognize our voices and know what we want...now that is awesome service. The chicken enchiladas and the carne asada dinners are to die for!!! Delicious!
(5)Caroline R.
The food here was incredibly bland. bleh! I will never come back. We tried this place one day for lunch because it was recommended to us, but we were NOT impressed. I couldn't believe how much our bill ended up being for such poor tasting food.
(2)Missy-Fishy X.
(5)David F.
(1)Carolyn C.
Chicken burrito was awesome - not greasy at all and stuffed with what seemed like a full chicken - very tasty. Service was very friendly and food came fast. Would prefer fountain drinks, but cans work for them I guess!
(4)Steve P.
(4)Paul W.
(5)Shalee S.
(3)Bobby K.
(5)katie l.
(2)Ed S.
(4)Jen K.

I M next door ....lucky me i have steak burrito ....yummy suppppper gooood service it hard to find....
(5)Rachel R.
(4)Haily W.

One of our favorite weekly places to go! Good prices, good food and service. Not very fond of there chips but that the only negative I have,
(4)CHESTY C.

Amazing.
(5)Alma D.
(5)Jerry V.
I gotta say this place is pretty decent I had a simple carne asada burrito which was 80% meat! Perfect proportions, tasty salsa, and resonably priced! Highly recommended for a good lunch spot in the south bay.... Oh yeah and free refills on horchata!!!
(4)Darren C.
was good food for lunch. great prices and selection of your mexican cuisine. i thought the enchilada was good. lunch only came with one. my colleague got a burrito. now that was a big burrito. good size and a lot of food. you walk away full.
(3)Rohan N.

The veggie burrito is amazing! Love this place!

Went here on a sunday afternoon. The waiter was very polite and attentive. The food was really great. My carnitas burrito was awesome! My grilfriend's tacos tasted very good too. I really liked it! 4.5 stars

(4)Julie K.
I agree with Jay L - food was a bit bland. Huge portions but I wouldn't drive far to eat here.
(2)Arnold B.
ordered the shredded chicken burrito. It lacks the taste very bland, blah. Plus, the cost of food is kind of expensive for something doesn't even taste that good. I would rather eat at taco bell than come back here.
(2)Paul K.

(4)Athena L.

(5)jey d.
pretty good food here i always order the amigo burrito... yummy... the night shift is alot friendlier than the day shift always hook it up with chips and salsa when your finished they ask if u want more great place...
(4)C M.

Best Enchilada Sauce Chicken Burrito out there!
(5)brian m.
Chile verde is one of the best plates I've had.

Either way, we decided we will never actually go there to eat anymore, we may try take out burritos again, but we're pretty much done with the place.

i like to get wet. . . my burrito's that is. good eats, nice people and bottomless horchata. what more can you ask for?
(4)Dave J.

(4)Joey K.
(5)G K.
This is now my go to Mexican restaurant. I love the food, salsa is home made, and staff are friendly. I recommend you try it for yourself.
(4)Eclectic E.
Came here on a fluke. Wonderful sauces and carnitas
(5)Nicole W.
Ordered dinner last night for pick up. The food was ready faster than expected. The staff was very friendly. The price for nachos was kind of high (I think I paid $10.00) especially since there was no salsa or rice. Over-all very happy. Big enough portions to share!
